Parthenogenesis Lyrics
PARTHENOGENESIS Words and Music by Ruth
Barrett
Can you see her wading near the
shoreline? Can you see her wading near the shore? Arms raised to the
evening chill in midnight Goose-bump flesh and white foam meet the roar
Legs parted to the sea Legs parted to the
sea What is she doing in the sea foam? What is she doing?
She is giving birth to herself
Dance of joy to the stars Loved by the
silvery ocean She is born in waves of pleasure and emotion
Stepping into icy waves of motion She
balances entwined around the kelp Translucent cells are pulling in her
stillness The very will of Life creates itself
Legs parted to the sea Legs parted to the
sea Life is her lover, Earth is her home Life is her lover
Dance of joy to the stars

CRONE Words by Ruth Barrett, Music by Ruth
Barrett and Cyntia Smith
Untie a knot, tie a new knot Bind it and
set it free Untie a knot, tie a new knot Bind it and set it free
Take me in your twisted hand, old woman
With each wrinkle I am yours in the end Twist the twine weaver of
time Your destiny is mine
I raise my eyes into my eyes
And there I see you beckoning
Conspirator, adventurer Upon the spiral way Whose approach is creamed
away in lies You are not refused in me Whose whisper now is deafening
I watch you weaving patiently
Untie a knot
Holy Mother of the Web, Widow of the
spiders tread Sister spinners, weavers all, Dance upon the
harpys claw Fill the void with sacred rage, Rattle the bars and
free the cage Shatter silence with your cries Sister flyers, pierce
the skies
Untie a knot
Like the snake that sheds its skin,
Letting transformation take me The golden chrysalis hangs by a thread
As I look within Where one leaves off and the next begins, In your
chaos will I bide Shadow spinster, Moerae, Guide me to the other
side
Untie a knot

DANU Original words by Ruth Barrett,
adapted from traditional Scots "MacCrimmons Lament." Melody
traditional.
Round Coolins Peak the moon is gleaming
The banshee wails her note of keening And my blue een with
sorrow are streaming For Danu is grieving, the Mother is leaving
No more, no more, no more forever Will
her gift of wild roses be taken No more, no more, no more forever
Beloved of her people, forsaken
The breeze on the brae is mournfully moaning
The brook in the harrow is plaintively groaning And my blue een
with sorrow are streaming For Danu is ridden, the Mother forbidden
No more, no more, no more forever No more
do Her children remember No more, no more, no more forever Do hearts
and minds invoke Her
I whisper her name upon the mountain Her
voice calls to me through the fountain And my blue een with gladness
are streaming For Danu is giving, the Mother is living
No more, no more, no more forever No
more will Her children deny Her We dawn the new day that ends the burning
The Mother is once more returning

KADISTU (HOLY WOMAN) Words and Music by
Ruth Barrett
Raven-haired Kadistu, full lipped, and spicy
wet. Circle my body in your radiance. Circle my body in your
radiance.
Dark eyes to journey deep, separate one, full
one, Savor her gentleness when the world grows cold. Savor her
gentleness when the world grows cold.
Abandon your fears in her embrace, And
find the embodiment of heaven and earth.
Petalled labyrinth to secret pathways of the
heart. Queen of Love, whose kiss is life. Queen of Love, whose kiss
is life.
Breathing, releasing, the sigh of the
universe, Smiling, shes opening, and births a new star.
Smiling, shes opening, and births a new star.
Shudder of awe awakens each cell. Pulse
of time where time knows no end.
Rocking the sea, a tidal wave of salt spray.
Pouring herself into each quake. Pouring herself into each quake.
I love, she loves, tasting of mysteries,
The dawns silky dew.

INVOCATION TO FREE WOMEN Words by Ruth
Barrett and Felicity A. Flowers Traditional Melody Adapted by Ruth
Barrett
It wasn't very long ago in the early
morning I dreamt of women wild and free, or slavery unknowing I awoke,
I awoke to distant voices fading The vision of what might have been
Dissolved in slumber's waning
Hecate, Hecate, Wise One of the Crossroads
Guide our path through darkest night To the truth within us
It wasn't very long ago, my senses can
remember They tore the baby from the breast, and then refused to feed her
Crying, crying, through countless wars and plunder They took our
Goddess, and our lives, our bodies torn asunder
Kali, Kali, Queen of Storms and Rages
Pierce through lies of mind and heart As we bring the changes
We have come and we were born to do our own
myth making To turn the tide and end the tears, long centuries of waiting
Turn again, turn again, turn again the stories That rendered us
invisible in history's pale glories
Gaia, Gaia, Mother of the Living Heal our
bodies, and our souls Grant us new beginnings
Women come together to move in one direction
To stop the raping of the world and give the Earth protection Rising,
rising, the sacred woman soul In us the present and the past, the future
we unfold

SISTERS EYES Words by Ruth Barrett,
Music by Su Livingston
In my sisters eyes is the darkness of
centuries lost In my sisters eyes theres a buried treasure
beneath the frost In my sisters eyes memories of her pride In
my sisters eyes are dreams of flight
She rattles your doors in the deepest
night And wakes you from sleep, her eyes burning bright You cannot
escape them, cant overtake them, Try as you might
In my sisters eyes, rage, betrayal and
lies In my sisters eyes, theres a warning of danger, no
disguise In my sisters eyes, the mirror of those who would try
In my sisters eyes, lives the spirit that will not die
She rattles your doors
In my sisters eyes stir the ashes of
the revived In my sisters eyes, Phoenix rising into the skies

MIDSUMMER MADNESS / RISE MOON Words and
Music by Ruth Barrett
In the twilight time when the colors turn
Hidden eyes within the leaves peer out unobserved Will you walk the
path that you can see? Or slip away between the trees?
Rustling forest sounds, like voices from the
deep Turning round you look again in disbelief Silent figures move in
misty form Your head is light, your blood is warm
Voices call you close, and your bodys
yearning Eyes of wonder as a child gaze as they turn If invited in,
will you join the dance? Or step away within your trance?
Is this all a dream? Or midsummer madness?
Apparitions of the mind? Or Natures own? Questions of the night
ask if its so The dawn brings what well never know.
And when I quiet myself and my history I
can hear the music wisdom in everything
Rise moon, with streaming hair, Touch
this weary human care, Lighten us to mystery, To darkness, to change,
eternally
Forest pulse and pull me into the living
world Creatures are of Her unquestioning, simply being
Enveloped by the tree, I take you to me
willingly, Whispers flicker endlessly, In voices of an ancient sea
Rise Moon
In the twilight time when the colors turn
Hidden eyes within the leaves peer out unobserved Will you walk the
path that you can see? Or slip away between the trees?
